From Prisoner of Lust to Victory Over Lust

"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" - (2 Corinthians 5:17)

I know what you are ALL about to say..."Girl, where have you been?"
Well, I have been living my best life in LAGOS, NIGERIA!

In the process of enjoying my trip God wanted me to touch on a sin we struggle with in this generation and that would be LUST. Today's topic sit heavy in my heart because I know what lust can do to a person over the years. Lustful thoughts have become part of our everyday lifestyle and we have become prisoners to our lustful desires. It is important for me to note that there is nothing wrong with having natural desires. In fact, it is normal to have desires in life or life would be worthless. But we must learn how to balance our desires with self discipline.

What does Self Discipline mean to me?
Self Discipline is the ability to require or maintain constant/positive attitude.
Being able to stand your ground and knowing that "YOU ARE ENOUGH THROUGH CHRIST!"
Self discipline keeps us away from attaching ourselves to the wrong people and worldly things.

With that said I think it is safe to say that God does not want us to suffer or become prisoners of lust. Its about time we stop believing the lies of lust and start asking God for help. We serve a Father that wants us to know that we have been set free from such bondage and desperately wants to show us what it's truly like to be LOVED.

If you have been searching for some type of fulfillment through things of this world and each time you find yourself EMPTY. It is time to go back to that quiet place with God and take the time to be honest with yourself & God.

A persons greatest need and desire should be in Christ (focused on God). Sadly, it is our sinful ways that separates us from our Father. " For everyone has sinned: we all fall short of God's glorious standard." - (Romans 3:23) But through Jesus Christ we are forgiven of our sins and restored again. Jesus said, I am the way, and the truth, and the life! No one can come to the Father except through me." - (John 14:6)

Before I continue I would like to give you ALL the opportunity to open up to God through Jesus Christ...

If you have never given your life to Christ and you desire to have a relationship with Jesus...Then this is your chance to do so right now and make a change. All you have to do is stop what you are doing for just a minutes and PRAY. Ask Jesus to come into your life by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved."

If you have decided to take a leap of faith today I just want to let you know that I am truly proud of you and I know that God is truly happy to know that you are back on the winning team. The bible says, "there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than ninety nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away! - (Luke 15:7)

"What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else?" - (Romans 8:31-32)

How to Gain Victory Over Lust

1. Ask God for help- I know this could be a scary step to take because most of the time when we live in sin the Devil likes to play with our minds and make us believe that God doesn't want us. FALSE! Go to God and ask Him for help. We must put our pride aside and humble ourselves in the presence of our Father. Sin does not have power over you. So to overcome lust, we must recognize that the person we use to be is gone. We are now made new in Christ.
2. Walk by Faith- Submit your life to the Holy Spirit. The bible says, "let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves." - (Galatians 5:16)
Remember you can't fight the battle of lust alone, so don't hesitate to ask the Holy Spirit for help.
3. Renew your mind daily- Focus on the Word of God and allow Him to remove those lustful desires, thoughts and actions.
4. Resist the Devil and flee away from him- This has to be the best advice I could give you: RUNNNN! Don't allow lust to stay too long in your mind. Get far away from anyone or anything that influences such behavior.

Prayers Against Lustful Desires

"Dear God, I come to you today to ask for your hand in help in battling with temptations.
I know no other way to overcome lust but through you. Please forgive me for my sins and cleanse my mind, my body and my soul of all lustful desires. Replace my lustful desires with Your desires for my life so that I can glorify You in everything I do. Deliver me from evil and protect me from his deceitful lies. May you continue to watch over me.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen!

Just speak from the heart!

What God Thinks About Lust

"Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride on our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave." - (1 John 2:15-17)

  1. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I am fighting the same battle too and it helps to know that I am not alone. Lust and worldly desires have been a constant problem in my life. I try to stop on my own but still fall victim to the temptations. I've realised I cannot do it on my own and cannot keep asking God for forgiveness then turn around and sin again. I would really appreciate it if you could help à sister walk the narrow road again and come back to God.
