How To Communicate With God

"The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard." - (Psalm 19:1-4)

First let me start by saying that there is no "accurate" way of communicating with God. I want you all to know that you can communicate with God the way you know how to. I just want to take this time to share with you all on how I communicate with God and what truly works for me. I hope what I am about to say through the Holy Spirit will help those who might be struggling with how to talk to God when they are in his presence.

There is nothing more special than 1. bonding with God through our words and 2. being able to communicate with others through Jesus Christ. It is important to know that communication is more than just being able to speak, but also being about to listen to God's voice. I believe that it is easier for us to talk than listen. That is why it is very beneficial for us to learn how to master the first part of communication; which is listening.

1. Talk To God The Way That Fits You- There is no right way of talking to God. You have to figure out what way works for you best. Ask yourself this, How do you see God? For me I see God as a friend. So the way I talk to him is like two best friends sitting together on the couch and having a very deep conversation. The way you see/view God will determine how you will approach him at all times.
2. Read Your Bible- One of the greatest ways God communicates with us is through His Word and also through the Holy Spirit.
Romans 10:17 says, "faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ."
John 14: 26 also says, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom who the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. The bible is a great tool that we need to constantly feed our souls with daily. In other word to understand what God is trying to tell us we must read, study, memorize and meditate on the word of God.
3. Always Pray Regularly- The bible says that we are to go to God in prayer for everything including our needs or when we lack something. It's not that God can not provide or he is unable to provide but it is our lack of communication that makes it difficult for us. Sometimes we tend to ask with the wrong motive in mind. Jesus should be a perfect example when it comes to praying because he prayed regularly. As a human he knew he could not do everything through flesh alone. Jesus prayed constantly because he wanted to keep his relationship with God going. We also should follow His example and pray no matter what.
4. Establish A Close Relationship With God- As we all know God cares a lot about us and knowing that we have a father that truly cares about our well being opens doors for us to come to him whenever. It makes things easier, so please do not hesitate to share your joy, pain and thoughts with him. Who would not want to be close with someone who cares about you till eternity.
5. Talk To God Like You Would To A Friend- But the only differences is that God is not only your friend, he is a father that truly loves you; a powerful friend for that matter. Seeing God as a very important figure puts things into perspective for you. You start to take him more seriously and not only see him as God you just pray to when you are in need. Talk to God as if you are having a conversation with someone physically standing there with you. Tell him about your daily troubles, problems, hopes, dreams and even talk about yourself. Let him know how thankful you are to have him in your life.
6. Examine Yourself & How You Talk To Others- as people of God we have to make sure what ever comes out of our mouth is not filthy or unclean. Colossians 3:8 says, "you must put them all away; anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth."  Even James goes on to say in James 1:19, "My dear brothers, take notes of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." When we speak with so much anger, we fail to show others the type of love God shows us (something I am obviously still learning). Regardless of  who you are speaking to someone who truly dislikes you, a family member or a perfect stranger, we still have to make sure whatever we say is coming from a loving place. We do not want to damage the chances of helping someone who truly needs Jesus Christ or destroying our testimony to others.
7. Pay Close Attention To What God Is Telling You- God might not directly talk to you, but he might respond to you through scriptures or sermons. Believe me if I say those signs may come in different shapes and forms. By saying that I mean through intuition, inspirations, situations and even events occurring; that might relate to what you and God have been talking about.

Pay close attention to everything you do.
