Asking God for WISDOM & KNOWLEDGE

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." - Proverbs 9:10

On my trip back to Minnesota I felt the desire to open up my bible app and read 2 Chronicles because that was what my spirit longed for at that very moment. Now I am not a huge fan of the bible app simply because I appreciate and value the authenticity of The Bible. Anyway, I am glad that I was obedient to my spirit because I was able to pick my next blog topic through God and I was able to appreciate and admire the type of relationship Solomon had with God.

When I think of the relationship Solomon had with God I realize that that's always been the type of relationship I have longed for all my life. "Solomon, the son of David, became a very strong King, because the Lord his God was with him and made him very great." (2 Chronicles: 1) Now that is what I call a real spiritual goal. Wisdom and knowledge from God is something that I have always asked for and till this day I still do. You can never have too much wisdom, if you ask me. There is nothing greater in life than having the gift of Wisdom and Knowledge. I think that it is very important to use our knowledge and experience to make decisions. But, most of all, we use the Bible as guidance. Who knows better than the Lord when it comes to guiding us in the right direction? It is through God's wisdom we are able to help others and it is through God's wisdom we are able to go through life and it's rough patches.

Solomon's relationship with God showed me that when we ask God for the right things with the right reasons we shall receive it; especially when we have an unbreakable bond with him. "Solomon went up to the bronze alter before the Lord at the meeting Tent and offered a thousand burnt offerings. That night God came to Solomon and ask, "Ask me for whatever you want me to give you. Solomon said to God, " You were very kind to my father David when you allowed me to rule on his throne after him. Now Lord God, continue to keep your promise to my father David. You made me King over so many people that they are like dust over the earth. Now give me WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE so that I can lead these people the right way. No one could rule this Nation without your help." (2 Chronicles: 6-10) Reading that just put a smile on my face because Solomon did not just ask God for Wisdom and Knowledge but he asked so that he could lead God's people the right way. He had the right intentions and motive. Which shows that he was a great man with a good soul. He was a unselfish man who acknowledged God. He knew that without God he would not be able to succeed. This truly reminds me of the type of relationship I have with God. Not a day goes by when I do not think I need God. I do not think I would be able to accomplish my goals, my purpose or even life without him. Matter of fact the first person I feel comfortable asking for help is God. I truly believe that we can not survive this world without the help of God. Can I get an amen?

"Then God said to Solomon, "You have the right attitude. You did not ask for long life and riches for yourself. You did not ask for death for your enemies. You ask for the Wisdom and Knowledge so that you can make the right decisions. So I will give you wisdom and knowledge, but I will also give you wealth, riches and honor. No king who lived before you has ever had so much wealth and honor." (2 Chronicles:11-12) Not only did God grant him his wishes but also added to it due to his right attitude.

Now after reading this passage I have come up with tips that might help you receive such amazing gift from God:

1. You have to have the right attitude- Come to God with the right intentions. It is always important to have a clear, but humbling heart in the presence of God. Remember that God sees your heart and already knows what you want. So you might as well keep it real with him.
2. Ask & you shall receive- Do not beat around the bush. Simply let God know what you truly want.
3. Make sure what you are asking for is for the right reasons- Do not ask for things due to your own selfish needs. God is not Santa Clause, he's actually our father and a father that truly cares.
4. You have to want things or do things for the right reasons/purpose- For an example, I long for wisdom and knowledge of God so I can not only help people but be able to understand my purpose more. In order to be able to help others through Christ you have to know what you are doing. Or you will get chewed and spit out by this world. We live in a society where you have to know God in order to do what God has called you to do.

Always remember that no one can lead us in a better direction than God. Our own understanding and experience can help make a better decision and the Lord plays a major role in that.
