Overcoming Temptations (Works of the Flesh)

"I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the the fruit of his deed." - (Jeremiah 17:10)

First, let me thank one of my friends for motivating me and encouraging me to speak from the heart today. I know that I haven't been blogging as I should and that's not fair to my devoted readers and followers I sincerely apologize for my lack of spreading the gospel and speaking from the heart. I will try my best to start posting again every Sunday. How does that sound? Good?

Now you all know that I love speaking from the Holy Spirit and speaking from my own experiences.  I thought I'd share with you all what's been going on with me for the past couple of days. As a woman who still chases after God's heart and longs to keep my relationship strong with him. I still battle with certain desires like lust.

If you know my story you would know that I have come a long way when it comes to dating the wrong type of guys and those past decisions have taught me a lot. I have learned to see relationships from a different light (God's way). Although, I have a lot more to learn, my experiences have allowed me to respect my temple, seek God's love more, allow him to prepare me in this season of waiting and also be patient for the man that's meant for me.

I am not going to go into extensive details about my battles as of recent. Let's just say that my spirit and my flesh have been fighting each other as of lately. Ever thought about something, but not act on it? Or you try to act on it, but God stops you? The reason why I ask these questions is because in the past I would not have thought things through first. I probably would have acted on the sin and then feel terrible about the decision I made. But I am starting to see a little bit of growth in my faith and within myself. One gift I can say I truly have is expressing myself honestly to God, those around me and most importantly to myself. God gave us the free will to make decisions on our own. It is up to us to obey God and make the right decisions or continue to latch on to our old worldly ways and do the wrong thing. Making the right decisions can be hard when your flesh is use to making its own decisions.

That is why I have to constantly commit myself wholeheartedly to God's words. Tie them to my hands and wear them on my forehead as a reminder. In order words, the word of God should always remain in my heart and in my mind. And this time around I wanted to see what it's like to not give into temptation and actually allow God to help me make the right decisions. it's not easy, but this God we serve is truly amazing.

God basically allowed me to STOP & THINK:
1) I thought about the consequences I would face if I listened to my flesh.
2) I thought about how I felt in the past every time I gave into sin.
3) I thought about how certain temptation could change or stall God's plans for me in the future.
4) I thought about God's amazing promises to me.
5) I thought about my future husband and how I would like to meet him one day and I don't want the decisions that I make to change that.
6) I prayed about it and asked God to help me in this specific area.
7) I thought about he emotional pain I would cause my family and their hard work to help me get to where I am today.
8) I thought about how far I have come in journey and how one mistake could change my entire life forever.
9) I thought about those who believe in me.
10) I thought about God and his love for me. OBEYING GOD IS WORTH MORE!

What people do not realize is that temptation can be used in two different ways:
1) to see your growth level (faith wise)
2) to teach you a lesson (sin wise)

Bible Verses that Continue Helping Me Overcome Temptations:

1. Psalms 119:11 "I have hidden your words in my heart, that I might not sin against you."

5. 1 Corinthians 10:13 "The temptations in your life are no different form what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. when you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

Important To Know ----> "TEMPTATIONS comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give broth to sinful actions, And when sin is allowed to grow, it give birth to death." - (James 1:14)
11. James 4:7 "So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
12. 1 Peter 5:8-9 "Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring loin, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are."

God Bless
